Trade Journal Google Sheets Template & Guide
Google Sheets is free, shareable, and fine for formulas — until screenshots and emotion notes make you quit. Here is a practical Sheets setup and when to upgrade.
Columns that matter
Mirror the same fields as any serious trade journal template: date, session, symbol, direction, entry, exit, size, R, setup tag, emotion, screenshot link, lesson.
Sheets-specific tips
- One tab for trades, one for weekly review notes
- Data validation dropdowns for setup tags and emotions
- Pivot tables by setup / session for expectancy
- Store screenshot URLs in a column — do not paste images into cells
- Share the sheet with a mentor without exporting files
Sheets vs Excel
Excel is stronger for heavy local formulas; Sheets wins on collaboration and access from anywhere. The upgrade path is the same: when attaching charts becomes painful, move to trade journaling software. Also read the Excel journal guide.
